In occupied Kashmir, a curfew-like situation prevailed in Kashmir Valley, today, as authorities deployed thousands of Indian police and paramilitary forces in Srinagar and other major towns of the valley. Paramilitary forces and police personnel locked down Srinagar and driving back people to their homes to prevent anti-election demonstrations after protests flared overnight.
Shops, businesses, educational institutions, banks, courts, government and semi-government offices were closed and public traffic remained off the roads in the valley.
Troops patrolled the deserted streets of Srinagar. "We have imposed restrictions on civilian movement as policemen raised barricades and razor wire across roads and stopped residents leaving their homes," said a police officer .(KMS)
