Shabir Shah released after nine-month illegal detention

Senior APHC leader and Chairman of the Democratic Freedom Party, Shabbir Ahmad Shah was released from Srinagar Central Jail on Friday after nine months of illegal detention under draconian Public Safety Act. Shabbir Shah was arrested on August 22, 2008, for leading the March towards Muzaffarabad earlier in the month. He was kept in custody despite the quashing of his detention orders by the court.
On August 11 last year, Shabbir Shah along with another senior APHC leader and the Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Peoples League, Sheikh Abdul Aziz led the March towards Muzaffarabad to protest against economic blockade of Kashmir Valley by the Hindus fanatic in Jammu. It may be recalled that Sheikh Aziz was martyred by Indian troops’ firing during the March while Shah was arrested on August 22.
